Colour plays a mysterious and vital part in our lives. I create big bold colourful canvases that will make a big impact on your home, adding joy to your life every day. As a synaesthete, I ‘see’ colour in letters numbers, words, names etc and I also ‘hear’ colour in music. As a result, my sense of colour is a free spirit, and my use of colour is unregulated and often surprising.
My main driving force in life has always been a love of animals and birds, and they are my natural painting subject. I also take inspiration from the beautiful National Forest in which I live.
Having enjoyed drawing all my life, I began painting seriously at age 40. I was battling the early stages of a rare auto-inflammatory disease at the time and the art gave me a focus and helped me cope with the stress. I am now sight-impaired due to some of the effects of my illness however I can still see well enough to enjoy painting. My limitations have led me to develop my own way of painting, with expressive brush strokes and dramatic colour.
My address is:
Sue Gardner Studio, The Ferrers Centre for Arts and Crafts, Staunton Harold Hall, Melbourne Rd, Ashby-de-la-Zouch LE65 1RU
