Susan Gardner - Artist Statement

My work is a celebration of nature’s spirit. I paint in oils on large canvases, using expressive brushwork and a vibrant palette. Animals and birds feature often, reflecting a lifelong love and study.

Art helps me explore the sense of wonder I feel in the world. Although my paintings are rooted in observation, I don't aim for realism. Instead, I let instinct and emotion guide me.

I consider my work to be described as Expressionism, with hints of Fauvism. Collectors are drawn to the colour and energy in the paintings.

About the Artist

Susan realised a long-held dream of becoming a full time artist in 2020. She lives in the Leicestershire countryside and works from her home studio on the edge of the Sence Vallery Forest Park.

She is industrious and quite prolific, painting is a daily practice, with several pieces in progress at any given time. Sight - impaired, following an illness, Susan has adapted her techniques to suit the circumstances.

Time off is spent with her dogs, drinking coffee with friends, reading, singing and practicing her walking (long story).
