A new home beside the forest - and a new lease on life and work!

What a year last year was, and it led to a massive life change in mny ways. I now find myself living with my three girls in a lovely little house right next door to Sence Valley Forest Park. I have been here for a month, and have a new workspace right at home here. The greatest sound here (apart from the girls barking) is birdsong. The morning chorus is tremendous and we all go out into the garden and listen, using the Merlin app to identify unknown voices. You can hear birdsong echoing through the forest next door.

I had already begun a new series of bird paintings before the move, and the inspiration here is helping things along! And the sky here is wide and such a deep startling shade of blue in the evenings. I’m trying to recreate that stunning blue in some of my pieces.

I have returned to my love, oil painting now too, as I have a space that I can close the door on, in case of fumes. I’m really excited about what Im going to produce this year.

Bird Artist - Keeping it Colourful!

colourful bird art with blue tits

Birds Eating Berries

This week I am wearing my bird artist hat, and working on a couple of originals. This piece features two Blue Tits, a perennial favourite. These sweet birds are eating berries and surrounded by a glorious burst of spring colour. I have some minor adjustments to make on this piece before it is ready. There is also a piece with Jays nearing completion, and there will be at least two more in this set.

This is the time of year when more Spring colours emerge on my palette. Lemon Yellow, Pinks, Lilacs and Peach. There is also a particular green that I shall never tire of using for spring foliage, mixed with a little pink - perfect!

My new Tawny Owl painting

Tawny Owl

This Tawny Owl painting is the latest addition to my collection, and I must say, owls are one of my favourite subjects to paint. Their unique features and mysterious aura make for a captivating piece of art. Take a closer look and see for yourself! I have used deep teal and sage green for the background of this painting. I still need to add a couple of details and blend areas. I will hang the painting up on the wall at home for a while until he is dry enough to add the final tweaks.

Update* This owl painting is now sold, I have some newly released bird pieces on the website here.

If you are looking for an owl print on canvas, I have a selection here Owl Prints
